Job Description

An Insurance company is looking to hire an insurance risk engineer to undertake the survey (including thermographic survey) of commercial and personal risks, prepare and present reports to underwriters, Proffer risk management solutions to the client’s risks and contribute to the growth and profitability of P & C portfolios.


  • Carry out a risk assessment to identify the risk characteristics, the condition of risk, and safety measures undertaken by clients, to help the firm price the risk accurately
  • Investigate colossal failures to determine the level of responsibility of different parties
  • Identify opportunities to improve the risk selection and assignment process to aid efficiency and improve timeliness based on various risk characteristics and locations
  • Work closely with stakeholders in the identification and implementation of alternative survey processes, including virtual surveys, looking at possible risks to employees, visitors and
  • customers within the accidents and liability etc.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement within the virtual survey process, tools, and technology
  • Work with management to implement changes that will ensure maximum efficiency and quality while minimizing cost.
  • Develop a structure for risk management solutions interventions for clients and potential clients
  • Burglary and theft - checking business premises for security and storage methods
  • Engineering insurance - covering mechanical and industrial plants
  • Fire - including plans, construction, and fire protection systems.
  • Any other responsibilities that might be required by the Divisional Director and the Managing Director from time to time.


  • Relevant first degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering and has
  • worked as a Survey Risk Engineer in Insurance or allied companies.
  • Experience in the Oil and Gas industries will be an added advantage.
  • 5 - 8 years’ experience in the Financial Services or Lost Adjusting firms with 3 years spent in managing a team
  • Working knowledge of risk management and risk management solutions, maintenance, and health & Safety practices is a must.
  • Good knowledge of insurance business and products, especially Property & Oil & Gas
  • Good communication skills (Oral & Written) to explain complex ideas to people from a variety of backgrounds
  • Analytical and strategic planning skills
  • Good understanding of financial statement analysis and reporting
  • Very good selling and relationship management capabilities
  • Good knowledge of the relevant regulatory frameworks and the regulatory environment.
  • Good attention to detail, as well as strong problem solving and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team-building skills.
  • Excellent understanding of the financial services landscape and inherent risks in the non-bank financial services industry.
